 Innovate Mobile Content Now!Has the time come to be more innovative in entertainment content and create a new genre of programming to fit the mobile device ?  The fifteen minute short show of fast-paced content, longer than YouTube and shorter than TV, could better suit viewing on a mobile device.  Like a short story, the narrative arc and show style could result in punchier, bite-sized content.  I.e., Mobile Short Shows.

From 1986-1987 Andy Warhol created and hosted the television show Fifteen Minutes that aired on MTV.   In the TV-only media world of the 1980’s, shorter shows probably didn’t offer much of an advantage.  After all not much else was vying for our attention in those days.  Not true today.  One current example of fifteen minute show run times can be found on Cartoon Land. The alleged kids’ channel, is using fifteen minute run times for animated shows like  Adventure Time, Regular Show and the new Problem Solverz.

Now technology gives us the opportunity to consume media everywhere, weaving in and out of wherever we are, whatever we are doing.  At every down moment now we are able to connect to friends or fill in with media. We can curate the mobile content to fit within the flow of our day.

Mobile presents new opportunities while viewing short shows such as:

  • Text friends as you watch the show sharing the viewing experience
  • Location-based advertising offered during the program
  • Product placement instead of standard advertising
  • Innovative :5 and :10 second ads instead of :15 and :30 second ads on TV

Original short format shows would make the mobile experience more meaningful for users, rather just an alternative device to watch television programs and movies.  It could open up a whole new genre of exciting short films and creative content.  Perhaps it will even start a new category of mini Emmys !
